General Information

The Barton Lab / Industrial Pretreatment Division with 33 employees has the responsibility for water quality monitoring activities, plant laboratory quality control, EPA plant reporting requirements, and industrial pretreatment sampling and surcharge activities.

	ESD's Barton Lab is one of the State's largest environmental labs. Barton Lab provides various laboratory services including laboratory analyses, water quality monitoring activities, plant laboratory quality control and industrial pretreatment sampling and surcharge activities.
A major purpose of Barton Lab's program is to verify that reclaimed water released by the County's treatment plants sustains the quality of water in the receiving streams. Samples are collected on a systematic basis.
Each sample collected must then be analyzed by technicians at the lab. The lab runs tens of thousands of tests and analyses on water and wastewater samples each year. Barton Lab's technicians measure several water quality indicators in each sample using advanced equipment and methods.
